Croft, Quinta Da Roeda, Vintage Port, 2018

Tasting Note:

Croft traditionally produces Ports of a more fruit driven style. In 2018, true to form, the wine exudes subtle notes of orange blossom, blackcurrant and plums with a noticeably crisp, high acid level which lends an overall impression of freshness. Located in Pinhao in the centre of the Douro, this single Quinta is south facing and quite exposed leading to an earlier harvest. Relatively low elevation means ripeness is never an issue, while cooling breezes help to retain aroma complexity and freshness in the finished wine. The tropical fruit character often seen here is toned down a touch in 2018, and their centurion vineyards have produced a silky, sweet fleshy Port that will be approachable on the earlier side. Average vine age across the property is 50 years old.
