Capela da Quinta do Vesuvio, Vintage Port, 2017

Tasting Note:

2017 represents the fourth Capela (chapel) do Vesuvio, coming from single vineyard of 90 year-old vines on the more sheltered valley floor, all the better to collect rainwater too. On the western side of the vineyard they are flanked by terraced slopes which shield them from the intensity of the summer sun. The grapes are foot trodden in smaller lagares to encourage the best extractions. The Sousao grape has an important role to play in the blend of this wine, bringing a spicy seasoning that underscores its freshness. Deep and serious on the nose with persistent grainy tannins, Lapsang tea and black fruit. Sultry, complex and very long. There are just 472 cases of this wine.
