Tasting Note:

As ever there is plenty of underlying structure and muscle here but there is a notably lighter, less stern side to this than usual. The structured core is covered with a veil of silk. The engaging, smooth, velvety, bramble fruit is ample and curvaceous but underpinned by tell-tale Grandes Places earthiness and grip. Handsome Côte Rôtie. Grandes Places is a fabulous single vineyard in the Verenay commune planted with 75-year-old ‘Serrine’ vines, which is the traditional Syrah of Ampuis. The wine is aged for 24 months in 30% new oak and is bottled without filtration.
