Tasting Note:

All 13 permitted varieties are used in Clos des Papes but Grenache is the dominant grape. Although by percentage Grenache still accounts for 50% of the 2013 (as opposed to the usual 65%) it is the Mourvedre (30%) that dominates with its dense but bright dark cassis flavours and velvety texture. Syrah, Vacarese, Counoise also add freshness, complexity and balance to the overall blend. A wine bursting with complex dark and red hedgerow fruits, touches of bramble sloe and hints of strawberry mixed with black pepper and sweet spice notes of star anise and cinnamon. Intense, finely poised fresh and silky.
