Roederer 2008

Roederer 2008

As we sample more Champagne from the 2008 vintage, it becomes painfully obvious that this is a seriously stellar vintage. The hallmarks are concentration, precision and balance. The wines are powerful but fresh, deep, layered and highly defined. They are going to age beautifully (if you can bear to wait…).

Roederer 2008 was the most recent to cross our palates impressing us for its high quality and modest price tag. The cool slow ripening conditions of 2008, coupled with the excellent grand cru sites in the Montagne de Reims, have combined to produce a Champagne of considerable power allied to classically chiselled features. There’s plenty of rich biscuit and red fruit alongside notes of spice, toast, white currants and citrus zest, all wrapped up in this dense, full yet lively fizz. Structured yet pure, there is a great deal to enjoy today, but so much more to look forward to. There will be more celebrated releases from this star-studded vintage to come, but few will offer such excellent price to quality ratio. This is a classic in the making!
