Tasting Note:

The wine that some argue put David & Nadia on the map in the UK, the core of the Grenache is a Paardeberg granite based site planted in the early 2000s. This is blended with a similarly aged organically certified vineyard planted in deep rich clay soils, north of Malmesbury, and a young Schist vineyard established by David Sadie. “A fragile variety in terms of purity and we don’t think it has the shoulders to intervene too much, compared to Syrah, say.” 50% concrete and 50% in cask with around 50% whole bunches, the rest destemmed not crushed. 5 weeks on skins. After an hour open it unfurls and becomes really interesting – fragrant but juicy with a bright, saline quality running through it. Sophisticated, intellectual, thirst-quenching Grenache at just 13% ABV.
