Tasting Note:

Quickly becoming Lukas’ signature red wine.. one that challenges the dominance of the Raats Cabernet Francs. “I was working in the US and drinking with some high rollers. I will never forget the energy and the focus of the old Loire Cabernet Francs. When I came back to SA I didn’t give it much thought, but when I tasted grapes from this old site in the Polkadraai with the farmer my heart stopped. I called my father-in-law to borrow money to buy a ton of grapes.” From two sites, the smaller Faure vineyard (east facing, cool site on the Helderberg, Stellenbosch) and an old, secluded farm in the Polkadraai Hills (a small, relatively unknown ward within Stellenbosch). All granitic soils. Forest fruit, redcurrant and herbaceous sappy aromas leading in to violet, with crunchy tannins and notes of graphite on the palate. If the 2017 was a bag of restless energy, the ’18 has a more tapered feel with gorgeous aromatics and detailed fruit. A cracker. “For me Cabernet Franc is all about perfume and energy
