Doix Costers de Vinyes Velles Priorato Mas Doix

A blend of 48% Grenache and Carinena from vines aged between 80 and 100 years old, aged in new allier oak for 16 months, this is complex, brooding, packed with crunchy gently gripping hedgerow fruit notes of bramble, tayberry and blueberry with a fresh, zippy acidity and colling mineral element, this has plenty of time on its side but is so polished and impeccably balanced that it could be approached within the next 2 -3 years.

Contains Sulphites.

Appellation: Priorat

Having seen a total revolution in the past twenty years Priorat now makes some of the worlds finest grenache based wines, making use of a particular slate and quartz soil type known locally as llicorella. And some incredibly old vines. Single vineyard sites have been identified, winemaking techniques have undergone a revolution and Priorat can now justly identify itself as one of the world's most exciting wine making appellations.

Grape Blend: Garnacha | Carinena | Cab. Sauvignon | Syrah | Merlot

A version of the classic Grenache (Garnacha), Syrah and Carignan (Carinena) blends found in The Southern Rhone and in Spain. Adding Syrah, Cabernet and Merlot to the local indigenous varietals adds bramble fruit and firm tannins to the wine. Such blends are wonderfully used by new-wave Spanish producers such as Vall Llach from Priorat where this blend of traditional and modern echoes their whole approach to modern viticulture and vinification whist respecting tradition.
