Tasting Note:

The first orange wine to grace the Justerini & Brooks list, the 2017 Brisat is a new wine from Mas Martinet, produced from a blend of Picpoul, Garnacha Blanca and Pedro Ximenez planted in 2002. In 2008 the estate began experiments with whites, seeking an expression that would chime with the rest of the range, and in 2017 they felt they had accomplished what they set out to do. The product of just one hectare, rising to two eventually, they see themselves as “situating new wines along the histories” of the region. All the varieties are picked together and foot-trodden before transfer in to amphora with 30% skins and stalks for three months. The rest of the aging is carried out in glass demi-johns and lined clay pots, to produce an oxidative, spicy, savoury wine exuding yellow fruit flavours, cloves, honey and turmeric. Richly textured with impressive concentration of flavour and a marked stony-salty quality, it is an impressive, complex wine. Just 478 bottles were produced.
