Tasting Note:

Amancio was the name of the first Eguren who started growing grapes in 1870. The wine comes from a fine 15 hectares of vines called ‘La Veguilla’, 575 metres above sea level in the San Vicente region. The planting density is high and the yields extremely low. Selection is rigorous, harvesting is manual and fertilisation is organic. Only one or two bunches are produced per vine and even then a very rigorous selection is carried out. A mere 8-10% of the vineyard production makes it into the final blend. The results are stunning. Utterly compelling from the very first; this is without doubt a very special Rioja. Complex and high-toned aromas of mulberry, cherry blossom, violet and the sweetest of wild strawberries lead to a palate that marries concentration and power with incredible levels of polish. Black cherry, sweet cinnamon, fresh coffee beans and blackberry, complex swirling nuances underpinned with crisp, precise minerals and sweet forest floor notes. The finish reverberates and echoes for a full minute or more. An extraordinary wine.
