Vega Sicilia, Riserva Especial, 2018 Release, Three Vintage Blend, 2005, 2006, 2007, NV

  Vega Sicilia

Floral and refined with plenty of fine salty fruit notes, this is the most elegant and refined wine of the three 2018 releases, with notes of dark chocolate and smoked berries alongside noble wood spice and a focussed, precise tannic structure. An impressive ode to the oft forgotten art of vintage blending and despite the designs of the blend, a wine that seems like it will gain from a few more years in bottle. A blend comprising a third each of 2005, 2006 and 2007.

Contains Sulphites.

About Vega Sicilia

Founded in 1864, 118 years before the Ribera del Duero region was demarcated, Vega Sicilia are and always have been the pace setters in the region. Their 250 hectares of vines are planted with Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec and impressively they are the only Bodega to have their own cooperage. These staggeringly concentrated, complex and robust wines are aged for a minimum of five years in barrel before bottling.

Appellation: Ribera del Duero

One of the leading wine regions in spain, Ribera del Duero specialises in the production of powerful red wines from the local variety of Tempranillo, Tinto Fino. A real challenger to Rioja in terms of quality this is an area that at first sight looks like a hostile place to grow vines. The vines are grown at altitudes of between 700 and 850m and searing day time temperatures are followed by extremely cold nights. The wines that emerge are firm, deeply coloured, ageworthy, and some of Spains most exciting and longlived.
