    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note

In 2009 the flagship wine, Vall Llach, is a blend of 80% Carignan from 110-year-old vines and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. It comes from a single vineyard plot which in 2009 required seven vines to produce enough grapes for one bottle! Unsurprisingly only 5000 bottles have been produced. An extraordinary cuvée. On the nose the old vine Carignan comes across in wave after wave of pure, detailed, very small dark berry fruit, a slick of slate minerals, flowers and incense. Complex minerals flood the palate, surrounding a deep fruit core; ripe and most importantly, perfectly balanced, mulberry fruit, fine dark chocolate, blueberry and slate. All this wrapped up in a lacy yet powerful tannic framework; powerful, long and refined. A showstopper.

    Josh Raynolds,
    Vinous
(70% carinena, 20% garnacha and 10% cabernet sauvignon; aged entirely in new oak): Vivid ruby. Cherry, mocha, licorice and oak spices on the nose. Spicy and youthfully tight on the palate, with tangy acidity giving lift to the ripe dark berry and bitter cherry flavors. Finishes with very good energy and length, leaving oak spice and floral notes behind on the gently tannic finish.
