`The 2010 Chateau Coutet has 154-gms/litre residual sugar, one of the highest in Sauternes/Barsac. It is endowed with a delightful bouquet of freshly sliced mango, Tropicana and a touch of honey, with good definition and minerality. The palate is medium-bodied with very impressive balance and poise, and is slightly viscous in the mouth, with almond, lemon curd and a touch of orange peel. The finish is composed and long. The 2010 Coutet is very impressive for the vintage, although I suggest not quite reaching the stellar heights of the magnificent 2009. 93-95/100`. - Neal Martin, Wine Journal
This Bordeaux sweet wine from the Barsac is under the direction and management of the Baly family as well as the technical and commercial collaboration of the Baron Philippe de Rothschild S.A. company. Situated in the Garonne Valley and in close proximity to the Ciron River, the 95 acres of vines within the property’s walls enjoy an advantageous microclimate and an exceptional terroir to produce a sweet wine with a signature style. Château Coutet’s vineyards are planted with the traditional varietals of the Barsac and Sauternes appellations: Sémillon, Sauvignon blanc, and Muscadelle. With an average of 38 years, the vines have developed a network of deep roots to extract elements from the limestone and clay-based terroir, giving the grapes freshness, richness and strength. The wine is aged for 18 months in 100% new French oak barrels following in-barrel fermentation.
It is a region on the other side of the Ciron from the even bigger and more famous Sauternes district. Wines produced within Barsac are also entitled to use the appellation Sauternes.
