La Chenade, Lalande de Pomerol, 2013

  La Chenade

Denis always has a catchphrase for each vintage. He describes the 2013s as 'unspittable' wines. It's a bon mot. 'Unspittable', because there is so little wine it would be a crime to, and 'unspittable' as the wines are gourmand and cry out to be consumed! Just 1500 cases of this perennial favourite will be produced in 2013. The blend will be 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. As ever, this is one of the 'must buy' value wines. In fact, I can't remember a year when La Chenade hasn't featured at the top of our top 10 value picks, such is the quality and consistently fair pricing. The 2013 will be no exception; it is fragrant, floral and packed with crème de mûre fruit. Waves of luxurious fruit cover the mid palate, tremendous energy with refined, sweet tannins. Bravo.

About La Chenade

Denis Durantou of Eglise Clinet owns this excellent Lalande de Pomerol estate. The wines are some of the best values from Bordeaux and are firm favourites of the Justerini & Brooks team.

Appellation: Lalande de Pomerol

The region produces Merlot-dominated wines which can offer great value similar in style to the wines of Pomerol but with less concentration. The soils are gravely and well-drained.
