Immediately seductive and enticing, sweet floral fruit, notes of violet rose and dark berry, silky juicy and caressing. Charming and extremely attractive. A south-west facing clay and limestone bade vineyard, but sandier than the stone of the Monprivato. Villeor gives floral, fruity wines that are open in their youth but with the body and stuffing to age well. Aged for 36 months in large Slavonian oak casks.
Giuseppe Mascarello is truly one of the great wines estates in the world. Their fabulous vineyard holdings, above all a sizeable 6.25ha of the legendary Monprivato vineyard, and a gentle, traditional approach to making wine result in some of the most ethereal, distinctive and sought-after wines in the world. The Mascarello family have been running their estate since the late 1800s. In 1980 current owner Mauro Mascarello took over from his father and has since seen the estate’s stock rise considerably amongst wine lovers globally and with his son Giuseppe and daughter Elena now alongside him, the domaine’s future looks bright. The wines are fermented with wild yeasts and are aged in large old wooden casks for several years before bottling without filtration.
Barolo is greatest, most intense and expressive display of the Northern Italian grape variety Nebbiolo. The name is given to bottles from the Piedmont area, made exclusively from Nebbiolo, and coming from the five core towns of Barolo, La Morra, Serralunga d'Alba, Castiglione Falletto and Monforte d'Alba, along with certain other peripherary villages. The wines offer power, aromatics and longevity that is almost unmatched elsewhere in Italy, perhaps the world. Top, forward thinking producers have pushed huge changes in the winemaking culture of the area, and as a result finer, purer Barolo is being produced than ever before.
