Rioja, Reserva, 2007

  Sierra Cantabria

Rioja, Reserva

A product of the very good, fresh and dry 2007 vintage, this serious Reserva needs a bit of coaxing to reveal itself. It would benefit from decanting. Although it receives 18 months in half French half American oak, 20% of which is new, it is only very faintly marked by it. Rather it is very fine, with flowers, spiced wild strawberries, plums and aromatic herbs all set around highly refined tannins. Really lovely.

Contains Sulphites.

About Sierra Cantabria

Established in 1870, Sierra Cantabria is a truly brilliant Rioja estate, creating cool, fresh wines with plenty of suave character. Combining knowledge and tradition accumulated over five generations, the Eguren family believe that “above all, we are grape growers”.

Located at the foothills of the Sierra de Cantabria, covering 18 hectares and at an altitude of 560 meters, it has an Atlantic climate but is also influenced by Mediterranean and Continental climates. The calcareous clay soil is excellent for obtaining high quality wines and to enhance the expression of the Tempranillo Peludo.

Appellation: Rioja

Spains most famous wine growing region is seeing something of a revolution. A band of new producers are shunning the traditional methods of production in a effort to gain greater purity of fruit, less dominant oak influence, and individual terroir characteristics. The results are wines that have the ability to age and improve in bottle, that have finesse, character and real elegance.
