A classic, stripped-down ‘acoustic’ Lagavulin

Since the 18th Century there have been distilleries present in the village of Lagavulin on the south coast of this rugged Hebridean Island, but it wasn’t until 1816 that farmer John Johnston founded the first legal operation. A year later a second distillery appeared, this one run by Archibald Campbell. The two were united by a Glasgow trader, and in 1889, Peter Mackie arrived at the distillery, under whose guiding hand the Lagavulin distillery was to become the last word in Islay malts.

Today Lagavulin is the definitive Islay malt. The King of Islay.
