A Connoisseur’s Collection
25 November 2020
We are delighted to offer what we believe is the best mixed fortified dozen around. Comprised of mature, drinking vintage Port from the great houses Taylor’s, Fonseca, Graham’s and Warre’s, single vintage and extremely old Sherries from Bodegas Tradición, and breathtakingly complex Madeiras from Pereira d’Oliveiras, from dry to sweet, this is the perfect opportunity to buy something special for Christmas. What’s more, all of the wines in the offer can be ordered by the single bottle and mix and matched depending on your preferences. This is a real connoisseur’s collection.
Highlights include the Amontillado Viejísimo, of which only 300 half bottles were made and just 24 are on their way to the UK. Its exact age is unknown but reports from the winery indicate that it has a minimum average age of 80 years old – a truly singular expression. A single vintage Oloroso 1970 is not only supremely refined and complex but the perfect 50th anniversary gift. There are just 30 bottles available. When it comes to truly exceptional Sherry, it doesn’t come any better than these. Read More
On the Port front, the 1994 Taylor’s is in a lovely drinking spot with sumptuous dark fruit and lashings of spice. Awarded the magic three digits by both The Wine Spectator and James Suckling on release, it is a pleasure to re-offer it now that it is ready to drink. Fonseca 1985 is an old favourite, exhibiting notes of chocolate and coffee bean with mint and berries too. For the 40th anniversaries out there, Warre’s 1980 is a silky, fragrant hugely attractive Port at the perfect level of maturity. Finally Malvedos 1982, a Single Quinta Port, is beautifully deep and silky and in its optimum drinking window. Alongside these reputable Vintage Ports we have also included some more affordable favourites in the form of Taylor’s and Graham’s 20 Year Old Tawnies. Both are delicious and, if patience allows, can be enjoyed easily over a couple of months.
D’Oliveiras is our favourite of the Madeira houses and their stock of old wine is by far one of the most impressive on the island. The dry Sercial 1981, off-dry Verdelho 1973 and sweet Boal 1977 are all classic, resplendent, thought-provoking examples of their categories and will simply never fail to impress.
The wines are offered on a first come first-served basis. Please submit orders online or via your account manager and we will be in touch to confirm orders and arrange delivery. Orders under £300 inc. VAT are subject to an £18.00 delivery charge in mainland UK.
