For under £12.00 a bottle all in, this entry-level Sierra de Gredos red is a darling of the London restaurant scene. Produced by our friends 4 Monos it is a light, fruity Garnacha from vineyards that extend to over 1000m of elevation. Named after the hiking trail on which the founding friends first met, it’s fitting that following their listings these days across Madrid’s most popular wine bars is a hiking trail of its own, such is their popularity at home. Given the slow down in the restaurant scene of late, we find ourselves with a little more stock than usual. It is perfect for anybody seeking a simple, refreshing summer red that is both easy to enjoy and easy on the pocket. Recommended by Tim Atkin MW as his “Wine of the Week” at the end of May, it comes highly recommended.
GR-10 is named after a hiking trail that connects the Atlantic and the Mediterranean and runs through the Sierra de Gredos. It’s the entry-point red from 4 Monos (their whole range is worth buying) and is a pale, tangy, refreshing cuvée of Garnacha with 10% Cariñena and 5% Syrah. Mostly aged in foudres, with a touch of new, 500-litre oak, it’s a wonderfully refreshing, high-altitude red from vineyards in Cadalso de los Vidrios, San Martín de Valdeiglesias and Cenicientos showing bramble, red cherry and raspberry flavours and refreshing granitic grip. – 91 Points, Tim Atkin MW
