A thoroughbred 2012 drinking beautifully now….
17 June 2020

For those familiar with the horse-racing world, Philipponnat’s Blanc de Noir might well be the nap of their range. As a maison famous for producing exceptional Pinot Noir-led Champagnes from the village of Mareuil-sur-Ay, with Clos des Goisses at the apex, it is not in the least bit surprising that their Blanc de Noir is a sure bet. In a vintage like 2012, it almost feels like a fix. The generous intensity of the 2012 vintage is obvious from the get-go as this comes charging out of the gates with notes of brandy snap, autumn raspberry and salted ginger biscuits. The palate is rich, broad and inviting yet there’s plenty of structure and freshness to ensure each mouthful of golden fruit simply makes you want to come back for more. This is a first-rate bottle that is drinking beautifully now, with all the ripe Pinot Noir fruit you’d expect from these maestros of Mareuil.
