Henri Lurton’s Brane Cantenac still flies just below most peoples’ radar. Despite a lofty classification, it never really receives the adulation it deserves; the big names in the commune: Margaux, Palmer and Rauzan Segla take most of the plaudits. In our opinion, Brane is right up there with the best performing Chateaux in the Medoc, and presents a great opportunity for astute buyers looking for elegant, refined, traditional claret. Brane Cantenac 2016 surpasses the superb 2015. It could be one of the finest examples we’ve ever tasted. There’s a classicism and grace here, which places this firmly in Margaux: the wonderfully fragrant, detailed bouquet; the beautifully pitched, perfumed, ripe fruit core; and the silky, refined tannins that grip the palate with a sense of gentle authority.
