The new La Rioja Alta 904 2011 is out today! Collectors have long followed this top quality, well-priced Gran Reserva. For us, it is the 904 that continues to be the most compelling in the La Rioja Alta portfolio; its strength lying in its consistency and ability to successfully traverse the season’s challenges, year-in year-out. 2011 is just another example of this.
After a strict selection process in the vineyard, an extended maturation period of four years in barrel and a further five years in bottle smooths and refines the wine and ensures that it is entering its drinking window by the time it hits the market. Now, in its youth, one can immediately enjoy the spoils of its luxurious, sweet berried fruit and truffley, tobacco leaf and dark chocolate savours, all backlit with a lively, youthful acidity borne out of a blend of mature, high elevation, limestone based vineyards.

2011 was a warmer styled vintage alleviated by the water reserves built up in the winter of 2010-2011. Harvest comprised warm days and cool nights, perfect for acid retention, colour and flavour development, producing wines with deep, generous fruit and capacity for a further 20 years of ageing. The final blend comprises 89% Tempranillo from vines averaging 60 years of age and 11% Graciano from the Montecillo vineyard in Fuenmayor.
The 2011 will be the last 904 release until the 2015 is launched in 2023.
