Artisan Chablis at its great value best
27 April 2020

You don’t have to look far beyond the commercial giants of Chablis to find artisan wines of real character and verve – and for a good deal less than the wines of their Côte d’Or neighbours. These are bottles that offer some of the greatest value in the wine world. If you have any friends in the trade take a peak in their cellars and you are sure to find a clutch of grower Chablis amongst them. Today we are offering a Chablis from one of the region’s most individual and hands-on Domaines, Moreau-Naudet, for under £20 per bottle.

The essential rule at Moreau-Naudet is picking ripe, healthy fruit. This sounds obvious but the domaine have always believed that Chablis “minerality” is used by many as a euphemism for underripe and overproduced. This often means the estate harvests a little later than some of their peers, but the wines never lack for freshness. Ageing is long and slow, this is no factory production line, in a mixture of tank and large use oak demi-muid barrels for between 16-18 months.    Read More
