Bordeaux 2016: Château Lafite Rothschild

Bordeaux 2016: Château Lafite Rothschild
The first vintage at Chateau Lafite following the retirement of Charles Chevalier was always going to be significant. After such an illustrious period in its history the Domaines Baron de Rothschild needed to make a statement. The 2016 Lafite delivered it, and more. It is simply phenomenal.

A wine of such effortless class and composure; the 2016 is the most refined example from this noble terroir we can ever remember tasting, putting it ahead of 2009 and 2010 - high praise indeed. Initially it is tightly coiled and classically reserved. With aeration, it begins to reveal its potential, with the myriad layers of flavour unfurling. The new team, headed by Eric Kohler has created a masterpiece; this is as handsome and graceful as Pauillac gets – a wine of effortless power and elegance. Bravo to Eric and his team – it was a pleasure to taste this from barrel and those lucky enough to buy a case are certain to be thrilled by the results after elevage. This is an exciting new era for Lafite!
