Bordeaux 2017 - Chateau Lynch Bages

Bordeaux 2017 - Chateau Lynch Bages
Lynch Bages has been on a roll. Under the stewardship of Jean-Charles Cazes, Lynch has developed a signature style that is captivating wine-lovers. It has been a sympathetic evolution; the young barrel samples we taste feel connected on a very deep level to the great Lynch Bages of old, with added precision and elegance.

There is a classicism here, a dark core of cassis and mulberry fruit interspersed with fine mineral detail and notes of earth. There is no excess or flashy winemaking, this is authentic, serious, long-term Pauillac produced from some of the finest gravel croupes in Bordeaux. Although dark and brooding, the fruit delivery is seamless, coating the palate with just enough sweetness and glycerine to make this both serious and seductive. We were struck by the persistence and the slow, tantalizing reveal. The tannins are laced with fruit, adding nuance and authority to the long finish.

As followers of primeur know, making great wine is sometimes not enough. An understanding of the marketplace and fair pricing is essential if you want your brand to succeed. Lynch Bages is certainly in the enviable position of having a global appeal both in the primeur and secondary markets - this is not down to chance… The Cazes family has carefully navigated its flagship through perilous times and emerged stronger than ever. It is a brand that collectors can buy with confidence, and the 2017 is no exception.
