Bordeaux 2019: Château Pichon Longueville
17 June 2020

If there's one Château we consistently under-rate, it's Pichon Longueville. We regularly have to eat our words as in bottle tastings outperform our initial assessments. This year is probably going to be no different; we are again at odds with the major critics… It’s hard to think of another wine that improves as much during élevage. As such, we will reserve judgement until the finished article in our glass. Those who have more success at predicting the future are unanimous in their praise. Neal Martin describes it as “an outstanding Pauillac” and awards an impressive 96-98 points, and Lisa Perrotti-Brown goes even further, with 97-100 points. "Very polished with creamy, lightly chewy tannins and layers of texture. Real cabernet sauvignon here. It’s full-bodied with pretty blackberry and blueberry character. Chocolate, too. Long, intense finish of fine, lightly dusty tannins. Tight and focused. Such finesse and class. 87% cabernet sauvignon and 13% merlot. 97-98/100". - James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com    Read More
