Bordeaux 2021: Lynch Bages, Grand Puy Lacoste, Branaire Ducru & Talbot
01 June 2022

There seems to be a rush to release before the Jubilee celebrations get underway. Today, we’ve already received news from four favourites in Pauillac and St Julien. Lynch Bages takes top billing with its beautiful rendition of 2021, which to some commentators resembles a modern-day return to their great wines of the 1980s. It’s a more elegant, less muscular style than of late; beautifully integrated, full of verve, this should be a joy to drink in a decade, and last for several more.

The 2021 Lynch-Bages, picked at 34hL/ha and matured in 75% new oak for a planned 18 months, has an outstanding bouquet, beautifully-defined and sensual, a mixture of black and blueberry fruit, very fragrant. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins, good body and density, quite precise with a tensile finish. This fans out nicely on the finish. A very classy Lynch Bages with echoes of Jean-Michel Cazes' classics from the late eighties. 13.14% alcohol. 94-96/100” – Neal Martin, vinous.com
