Château de Meursault Les Charmes Dessus 2014

Château de Meursault Les Charmes Dessus 2014
Brilliant white Burgundy…

We are pleased to report that the revival of the great Chateau de Meursault is well underway. Stephane Follin-Arbelet, brother of Frank Follin-Arbelet and former boss of Bouchard Pere et Fils, is the new man in charge, and since 2012 he has been working to put this historic Domaine back on the Burgundy lover’s map. The wines have never been better. We’ve bought every vintage under Stephane’s tenure, such has been the rise in quality, and of those, 2014 has so far been the star. 2014 will go down as a truly brilliant white Burgundy vintage and a benchmark for this estate; marrying rapier fresh acidities and plenty of extract, with sunny fruit, noble textures and clear terroir transparency. Stephane’s dazzling 2014s manage to be both ‘solaire’ and saline, a wonderful combination.

We are pleased to offer a small parcel of the premier cru Meursault Charmes Dessus 2014. Currently it is impressive for its sheer energy and vivaciousness, but it will amply reward cellar time. From two specific parcels in the higher (better) part of Meursault Charmes, situated just below Clos des Perrieres, it represents a clear step up from the straight Charmes with an electric, saline element bringing vigour and focus to the rich and layered fruit. Those looking for a top quality, well-priced premier cru should look no further.
