Chêne Bleu’s Flagship 2010s

Chêne Bleu’s Flagship 2010s
We have been singing the praises of the Southern Rhone’s Chêne Bleu estate ever since we started importing their wines in April 2011. Since then, the wines have achieved a cult following and blazed a trail for the new ‘Super Rhones’, bringing a touch of flair and a fresh outlook to the Dentelles de Montmirail. Handcrafted in tiny quantities at high altitude, they marry Southern Rhone spice and richness with some Northern Rhone spark and crackle.

Today we are pleased to present the estate’s flagship wines: Heloise and Abelard, from the sublime 2010 vintage. Heloise is Syrah dominated, blended with old-vine Grenache and a little Viognier, amounting to a wine of silk and fine texture, cool blackberries, sweet raspberries and cracked spices; youthful but beginning to drink nicely. Abelard, by contrast, is one for the future, as it captures the depth and concentration of 40 year old Grenache, topped up with Syrah to arrive at an 85/15 blend. Sweetly supple and sleek, rich black cherry liqueur, wild strawberry and liquorice notes are sustained by fine-grained tannins that provide covert backbone and length. Here are two 2010s that are stars in the making.
