We are delighted to offer, ex-domaine, a rare collection of every Clos des Goisses vintage from 1991 to 2005, currently lying in Philipponnat’s cellars.
It is no mean feat for a single vineyard in Champagne to produce wines of such quality and consistency. Not a vintage has been missed during the 15 years this offer spans - an extraordinary fact that is testament to the brilliance of this vineyard. Described as "one of the true icons of Champagne" and "as consistently, one of the world's foremost wines" the Clos des Goisses vineyard is probably as unique as the wine it yields.
Purchased in 1935 and overlooking the river Marne, its dizzying incline of 45 degrees makes it one of the steepest in the region and its due south facing aspect give it plentiful exposure to the sun. Add to this its pure chalk soils, wooden cask vinification, no malolactic fermentation and low dosage and you have one of Champagnes purest and most intense expressions of terroir.
When Richard Juhlin compiled his list of the 50 best late disgorged Champagnes for The 'World of Fine Wine' a staggering 10 places were filled by Philipponnat Clos des Goisses. Enough said. Truly one of, if not THE, great vineyards of Champagne.
