A classical and classy white Burgundy

We’re always on the lookout for a bargain from Burgundy. Alas, they’re becoming harder and harder to find… However, a recent encounter with a bottle of 2017 Bourgogne Blanc, Clos du Château from our friends at Château de Meursault brought a big smile to our palates. Hailing from four gravel, clay and limestone plots within the walls of the chateau, this is a very grown up, Meursaultesque Bourgogne, full of class and composure. The fruit is wonderfully expressive and beautifully integrated with toasty oak notes. There’s plenty of richness and depth here, but as with so many 2017s, it has a wonderful intensity to the citrussy fruit combined with a long, noble, mineral finish. It’s very much our cup of tea and perfect for drinking this summer.

Chalky and classically “Côte de Beaune”. Gregarious yet classy; there’s a nice melting buttery texture but there’s plenty of finesse too. A bright citrus note brings a mouth-watering freshness, before returning to more chalky limestone echoes on the finish. A superb Bourgogne Blanc hailing from four gravel, clay and limestone plots within the walls of the chateau. This is one of Chateau de Meursault’s signature wines. Farmed organically since 2017. Aged in 25% new oak barrels for 12 months.
