Domaine de La Folie Clos St Jacques 2018
04 July 2020

If one area is nipping at the qualitative heels of the Côte d’Or, then surely this is Rully – a most under-estimated region for white burgundy. Whilst there is much untapped potential in this most northerly Côte Chalonnaise appellation, there are already some very fine and characterful examples that are proving the point convincingly. Domaine de La Folie is swiftly becoming a new benchmark here.

This family estate’s history goes back three hundred years but had fallen on hard times more recently. The domaine was heading to ruin before fortunately passing into the hands of heirs Clémence and Baptiste Dubrulle in 2010, who set about restoring its former glory. Based in Chagny, the property stretches over 13 hectares of Rully, all of which are managed sustainably, with respect to the environment and tradition. Herbicides are banned, yields are controlled and harvest is carried out by hand in small boxes to preserve fruit quality.
