Drinking Barolo of Great Pedigree

As the nights start closing in our thoughts turn to autumn fires, truffles and full-bodied reds. Our Justerini & Brooks Barolo is the perfect choice to accompany this change of season; a warming but svelte, super-refined Barolo of quite some style and panache. Made for us by Piedmont’s most exciting new prospect, Figli Luigi Oddero, this is Nebbiolo of quite some pedigree, being a blend of two thirds Serralunga fruit with a third of Castiglione’s great Rocche Rivera vineyard thrown in for good measure! Aged for 18 months in large used oak Slavonian Botti and finished in tank for 3 months prior to bottling, this is pure, elegant and traditionally-made Barolo. Tense, mouth-watering yet demure and measured, this flows neatly across the palate and leaves your mouth refreshed. The flavours are discrete at first, but with a little time and air this gradually unveils ethereal notes of fresh alpine herb and juicy, red berry and cherry fruit. Pure and timeless.

Luigi Oddero -

An estate going places fast, we believe Figli Luigi Oddero has the potential to be one of the very great estates of the Langhe. Its story started in 2006 when Luigi split off from the Oddero estate with 30ha. Luigi sadly passed away in 2009 but his wife Lena is now running the azienda alongside children Maria and Giovanni. Dante Scaglione, of Giacosa fame, is consultant winemaker and in 2016 Francesco Versio joined the team as full-time head winemaker. Also formerly of Bruno Giacosa, Francesco is considered one of the brightest young winemaking talents of the region. Methods are traditional here, long gentle extractions followed by ageing in large old oak casks for up to three years. Blessed with some truly great vineyards and some of the best winemaking talent around, the Luigi Oddero future looks bright indeed.
