Duemani 2016

Duemani 2016
The glimpses we caught of the 2016 Tuscan vintage last year suggested wines of great promise. Having tasted extensively over the last three months, throughout Montalcino, Chianti Classico and the Tuscan coast, we are firmly convinced that 2016 is the real deal. It is a great vintage; one of those rare years where consistency and the highest levels of quality go hand in hand.

Today we are offering the 2016s from the most exciting project on the Tuscan coast. It is over fifteen years now since Luca d’Attoma, famous winemaking consultant to some of Tuscany’s great wineries, established his own bio-dynamically grown vineyards in hilly Riparbella, inland and just north of Bolgheri. It is fair to say this estate, named Duemani, is now at the top of its game. For us their 2016s better their previous greats, 2013 and 2010.

Luca and his team’s ferocious hard work, attention to detail, skill and investment have had a big hand in 2016’s quality. So, too, has Mother Nature. A very hot July and August, accompanied by northern winds, meant for dry conditions. Two meaningful rainfalls in September restored balance to the vines, allowing ripening to continue. The grapes at harvest time, according to Duemani, “turned out to be of extraordinary quality.” Picking began slightly earlier than usual, on the 15th September for Syrah (Suisassi) and the 25th September for Cabernet Franc (Duemani). The resulting wines are true legends in the making.
