Emrich-Schonleber's unmissable dry Rieslings

Emrich-Schonleber's unmissable dry Rieslings
Werner and Frank Schonleber, father and son team at family state Emrich-Schonleber continue to craft some of the Germany’s finest and most crystalline dry white wines. Their Grosse Gewachs are widely considered to be amongst the best money can buy, but they are neither cheap, nor immediately accessible. In order to ensure only the very finest grapes make the cut they have a second tier of wines from the Halenberg and Fruhlingsplatzen vineyards, made very much as they would a GG, from grapes that many would consider Grand Cru quality. As such, they represent tremendous value.

The 2015s we’re offering today are utterly on song. The Fruhtau is charm itself, laced through with steely citrus notes and fine white flowers. It’s absolute refreshment, the texture of fine silk, ethereal and entirely seamless. Halgans, from blue slate soils is the pungently slate focussed, savoury, salty brother; firm at the core but possessing similarly zen like balance, delivering complex minerality alongside delicate bitter orange notes and ripe, perfectly integrated acidity.

If you would like to dip your toe into the exciting world of dry German Riesling, or are a fully-fledged devotee, these two will deliver.
