Giuseppe Mascarello 2014s
10 July 2018

Quality invariably comes at a price, not just for consumers and merchants but producers too. The 2014 season was famously challenging in Piedmont. Persistent rain and cool temperatures during the summer meant fruit ripening was slow and uneven. The latter half of the season was a little easier however, and meant that the best drained, most exposed vineyards had a chance of producing the goods. It is years like this that prime sites really show their worth. Whilst a sometimes difficult and irregular year, we maintain that great vineyards and winemakers made beautiful wine in 2014. Many would argue there is no greater vineyard than the steep, southwest slope of Monprivato – the striking 2014 is incontrovertible evidence. An obsessively rigorous de-selection of under ripe grapes has meant the 2014 crop at Giuseppe Mascarello has been reduced severely, a massive 40% down on that of 2013. It has been well worth it – the wines are snappy and bright, sumptuously elegant, spellbindingly ethereal and true to the much-loved Mascarello style.

The wines are abroad and will be shipped in the autumn.
