Giuseppe Mascarello releases 2015
Giuseppe Mascarello, a bastion of traditional, Barolo winemaking, have released their stunning 2015s. The elegant jewel-like fruit that is the estate’s hallmark shines beautifully through the sunny, generous 2015 vintage. The warmth of the year reveals itself through the charm and roundness of the wines without impinging on their typically translucent, ethereal red fruit character – which they so vividly exhibit. This is without doubt a very consistent and remarkably open vintage here, yielding richly-textured, smooth but elegant and classically-styled Barolos. They caress and allure the palate. The product of long, gentle fermentations and ageing for a minimum of 36 months in some of the region’s largest, oldest casks, the Giuseppe Mascarello Barolos are amongst the purest and most unforced examples to be found. The wines themselves bear this out. From the sandier, floral Villero and the powerful Santo Stefano to the sublimely ethereal Monprivato, each of their vineyard expressions sing brightly and clearly with their very own individual characters.
