Hommage a Jacques Perrin 2016 - a 100 point Hommage...
The Perrin family’s old vines, Mourvèdre-influenced cuvée has consistently been the most critically acclaimed Châteauneuf there is, so the recent release of 2016, a first rate Rhône vintage, has been hotly anticipated. Hedonists, Rhône die-hards and fine wine collectors alike will be thrilled by the resulting Châteauneuf-du Pape Perrin have crafted. The 2016 does its well-scored predecessors proud and offers a fitting tribute to Jacques Perrin, receiving high praise from the likes of Jeb Dunnock (100 points) James Suckling (100 points) and the Wine Advocate’s Joe Czerwinski (99 points.).

Perrin themselves call this an “exceptional” vintage thanks to “idyllic” weather conditions. Flowering was successful, by which time there was already a water deficit –something which continued during the summer and proved a determinant factor for the vintage. Vines were never stressed enough to entirely shut down, so this deficit aided full grape maturation and concentration. The crop being healthy, ripe and homogenous meant harvest was relatively quick and straightforward, starting on the 15th September and ending on the 3rd October. The result is an ever so slightly more Grenache-influenced Hommage than usual, a wine that is all about texture, refinement and sensuality. A unique Hommage, a great Châteauneuf du Pape.
