If you missed our LIVE masterclasses, you can catch-up here.
The subject of the sixth edition of the Justerini & Brooks LIVE masterclass series sees us crossing the pond to talk to Ken and Erica from Walter Scott Wines. Having swung through some of our favourite old world regions, it seemed only right that our next foray was to the new world. Where better than the wonderful Willamette Valley, home to some of America’s most sophisticated Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

In Walter Scott wines, we’re delighted to be importing one of the region’s most respected outfits. In just over a decade, Ken and Erica have honed a style of winemaking that produces wines of great restraint and elegance, born from some of the valley’s finest vineyards. Primarily focussed on sites in the cool Eola-Amity hills, Ken and Erica craft wines with the requisite structure and acidity to age, wines full of kinetic energy, electricity and layered, mineral tinged fruit profiles. Ken will be discussing their winemaking philosophy, the influences and challenges that they’ve encountered on their journey, and what makes the Willamette Valley such a special place to make wines.
We are very excited to have just landed their two 2018 Combe Vert bottlings; each a blend of single vineyard fruit, produced with all the care and attention of their top bottlings but given slightly shorter élevage to allow them to be drunk relatively young. The Chardonnay is a wine of startling purity, with the deftest touch of smoky reduction on the finish, all precision and fine boned fruit. The Pinot Noir is a wine that unfurls in the glass, iron rich minerality joined by sweet cherry fruit and summer flower notes. Coming in at just £22.18 per bottle including VAT, or £284.16 including delivery for a mixed case of 12, they provide a wonderful glimpse of the Walter Scott stable and would be a welcome addition to any cellar for the summery days and long evenings ahead. Should you wish to taste these wines during the masterclass they are listed below.
