Krug 2004 - “absolutely mesmerizing” Antonio Galloni
A tightening of supply and soaring recent demand has meant that Krug offers in recent years have been rather muted affairs, if they’ve happened at all. There simply hasn’t been the stock! Today, we’re delighted to finally be able to propose an offer of both Grand Cuvee and the magical Krug Vintage 2004.

Krug 2004 is spellbinding, arguably the greatest vintage Krug in a two decades. Antonio Galloni awarded it 97+, referring to it as “absolutely mesmerizing…Persistent and beautifully focused, with a translucent sense of energy”. He goes on to say that “Readers who can find it should not hesitate, as it is a magical bottle.” The vintage itself was cooler than average, producing Champagne of great refinement and steely tension very much built for the long haul. In a year not short on class, Krug’s 2004 will undoubtedly go down as one of the greats.

Krug Grand Cuvee seldom disappoints. Very much the flagship wine in the Krug line up, it is produced from a staggering number of component wines. For Edition 166, the youngest wine is from 2010 while the oldest dates back to 1998. Chef de Cave Eric Lebel is clearly a brilliant blender as well as winemaker as once again this combines Krug’s textbook bright golden richness with fabulous precision and depth of flavour. The blend is composed of 45% Pinot Noir, 39% Chardonnay and 16% Meunier, with 42% of the blend coming from the reserve wines and the entire assemblage spending 7 years sur lie before release.
