Standouts from Le Ragnaie Dinner
Last week we were extremely privileged to host Riccardo Campinoti, owner and winemaker at Le Ragnaie, one of our latest agencies from Brunello di Montalcino, in the dining room at our St James’s Street office. Over a four course dinner Riccardo took us through a selection of his wines from the delicious and excellent value Rosso di Montalcino up to the gorgeous single vineyard cuvées, Fornace and Vecchie Vigne. Whilst every wine in the range impressed, what really stood out as offering beautiful drinking and stunning value for money were the straight Brunello from 2008 and the Rosso di Montalcino 2011.
The 2008 Brunello di Montalcino is currently still extremely fresh but wonderfully approachable, showing perfumed notes of cut flowers, tobacco, rose petal and beautiful balance. This can be drunk now but will easily mature over the next 10-15 years and possibly beyond.
The 2011 Rosso di Montalcino is punching well above its weight - at just £130 per dozen this is an absolute bargain - soft and silky and packed with crushed flowers, tobacco and star anise. A stunning entry into the wines of Montalcino.
A beautiful pair of wines that are sure to impress seasoned Brunello drinkers as much as those who are new to the beautiful wines from this region.
