Malescot St Exupery and d'Armailhac
10 May 2016

It feels like the campaign has finally started. Yesterday, Chateau Lafleur sold out in quick time. Hardly surprising given that it was one of our wines of the vintage and priced correctly against equivalent vintages. Beychevelle (£535/12) and Pape Clement (£625/12) were somewhat overlooked in all the excitement surrounding Lafleur. Both wines have been well received by the critics and are selling well in Bordeaux.

Today, we have a flurry of releases including the quite excellent Malescot St Exupery. It has been some time since the Margaux commune took the limelight; the 2015 vintage was worth the wait… Margaux, Palmer and Rauzan Segla take the podium places, but Brane Cantenac and Malescot lead the chasing pack. This is a grand scale wine with enormous potential, gorgeous, well-delineated flavours and a serious tannic structure. At £370 per dozen it is under half the price of the 2005 and is every bit as good!
