Monteraponi New Releases - exciting, artisan Chianti Classico
17 July 2018

Much like the rest of Italy and France 2015 was a warm, dry vintage in Tuscany, impressive for its homogeneity and the ripeness, full flavour and body of its wines. The vintage was at its most exceptional high up in the hills where cool breezes tempered the hot sun to yield grapes of impeccable balance. Some of the year’s greatest examples are to be found high up in Radda, one of the original parts of Chianti Classico, at between 420 and 570 metres altitude. Here sits the farmhouse of Monteraponi, once an ancient medieval hamlet, where Michele Braganti is making some of the purest, most exciting Chianti Classicos around. Much talked about and sought-after in their native Italy, it won’t be long before Monteraponi gains world-wide recognition. Unique and elegant, the wines reflect the traditional, low tech and gentle way in which they are made. After hand harvesting and gentle pressing, spontaneous fermentation is carried out in cement vats where it continues to macerate and infuse with the skins for a further 25 days. The wine is then racked off into large used French and Slavonian oak casks for between 14-36 months of ageing depending on the cuvee, bottling then takes place without fining or filtration.    Read More
