New Producer: Swartland's David & Nadia
19 March 2018

Today we are delighted to introduce the latest addition to the Justerini & Brooks portfolio. David & Nadia Sadie are a young husband and wife team who, since going full-time in 2013, have become two of the best winemakers in the Swartland and one of South Africa’s hottest tickets. We fell in love with the 2016 releases and believe that this exciting young winery will play a major role in shaping South Africa’s ongoing wine revolution in the years to come. Ambition comes with talent, and the winery’s long-term plan to nurture and restore the best parcels of bush vines from all over the Swartland is an arduous effort to uphold local traditions and breathe new life into the region’s enviable stock of old vines. Wherever possible, irrigation is eschewed in a bid to properly reflect the vintage and Swartland’s array of complex soils, all made possible thanks to the revitalisation of the most promising, often neglected vineyards, combined with a rigorous selection process at harvest. Once in the winery, the grapes see a cool soak before spontaneous fermentation in a combination of open concrete tanks and neutral 300L French oak barrels. Pumping over is limited to once a day and whole-bunch pressing is carried out on all of the whites and up to 50% for the reds in a bid to retain freshness and perfume. The wines then rest in large oak casks for a period of 12-18 months. Produced with a gentle hand from start to finish, the wines are marked by a natural finesse and silken restraint, with bright acidities and sumptuous, soulful fruit.    Read More
