New Release - The exceptional Pol Roger 2008
Today sees the official launch of Pol Roger 2008 – a landmark release from this historic Champagne house. Not since the release of the legendary 2002 have we seen such eager anticipation of a vintage Pol Roger. Having tasted it last week it is clear that this excitement was well founded; 2008 will undoubtedly go down as a great Pol Roger.
Precision and focus are the hallmarks of this release. It is exceptionally long and pure, delicious now but clearly destined for greatness if you have the patience to give it some time in the cellar. The cool growing season combined with Pol’s rich, dry style has produced something remarkably high-definition and chiselled – it is mouth-watering stuff and we cannot wait to follow its evolution over the coming years.
“Really quite broad and ripe on the nose with mildly floral notes and a hint of putty. Really very dramatic! Even a hint of marzipan. Creamy texture with a little bruised apple acidity. Admirably long. Really exciting. Is this a worthy successor to the 2002? Drink 2017 - 2030” 18/20, Jancis Robinson MW, 2017
