If there is one region poised to capitalise on the severe white burgundy shortage, it is surely the Jura – a hotbed of exciting artisan wines and environmentally-conscious wine-growing. Our pick of this season’s drinking is from the region’s flagship grape – Savagnin, made by Domaine du Pélican who are one of its leading biodynamically-farmed estates.

Their 2018 is brim full of character and energy, a real yin-yang of sweetly-scented floral aromatics and a palate of tremendous crunch and snap. It offers a wonderful interplay of intense spicy fruits, solid structure and racy, mouth-tingling citrus freshness. Powerful but linear, crystalline and long.
