Piedmont 2013 Buyers' Picks
06 April 2017

The 2013 vintage in Piedmont is a year to be excited about, right up there with 2010 and 2006, without being as daunting at this early stage. It is a classic vintage, in the very best sense of the word, yielding wines that will appeal to seasoned Barolo collectors and newcomers alike, such is their poise and finesse. A week on from the opening offer and the wines are selling out fast. Today we roundup with a selection of our Buyers’ favourite wines, all of which are still available to order.

From La Morra, Marco Marengo’s Brunate continues to be one of the best value crus in the entire Barolo denomination, produced in a style that marries transparency with drinkability. Paolo Scavino’s Monvigliero, Verduno’s Grand Cru equivalent, has wonderful breadth of fruit and noble tannins, both hallmarks of this sunny amphitheatre. Due south from Verduno, to Monforte d’Alba, and Paolo Conterno present a striking Ginestra; controlled and intensely saline, with vivid summer berries and scorched earth. Wonderful.
