Rhone 2015: Buyers' Picks

Rhone 2015: Buyers' Picks
Ancient vineyards, stone farmhouses and French food with a Mediterranean lilt: navigating the Rhone can be very seductive. Back in September, under sunny skies, we tasted our way through some of the best young Rhone in years. It almost felt too good to be true. Happily, re-tasting almost a hundred of them in wet and wintry London last week confirmed that 2015 really is an outstanding vintage.

From barrel, the wines are suave, ripe and intense, but fine grained and focused too; the charm of the vintage evident in the limber fruit that makes them such a joy to taste. Blessed with a bit of sunshine, and rain at the right time, the best are layered, complex and built for the long-haul.

Critics have so far pipped north over south and there is no question that the Syrahs of Hermitage, Cote Rotie, Cornas and St Joseph are endowed with both flesh and precision. Make no mistake though, the Southern Rhone’s smartest addresses have also produced some of their best wine in years.

A week on from the offer, many of the wines have sold out. However, below is a small selection of wines that may have been overlooked the first time around, and represent some of our personal favourites.
