Roberto Voerzio 2013s
21 March 2017

Fresh from our Piedmont sortie last week, our second over the last four months, we are delighted to launch Barolo season with our debut release of the exciting 2013 vintage. Our full offer will follow next week but we wanted to first whet your appetite with the new vintages of cult La Morra producer, Roberto Voerzio.

A hands-free approach in the cellar combined with maniacal attention to detail in the vineyard is perhaps how best to describe Roberto Voerzio’s approach to making wine. The estate are famed for their microscopic yields: the cru Barolos are the result of a yield restriction of 500g of fruit per vine. Even the Dolcetto is only allowed one kilo, when the norm in the region is two or three at the best addresses, and even then only for their top wines. The summer of 2013 finished extremely well, but the cool, wet weather that kicked the season off reduced yields considerably. Add these two factors together and you get 8000 bottles, Voerzio’s entire production of Barolo in the brilliant 2013 vintage – a small crop even for them. This was compounded by their brave decision to sell off their Rocche dell’Annunziata cuvee after the wild yeast ferment went in a direction they did not like, another example of the radical perfectionism Voerzio have become renowned for.
