Sign-Off Grenache day in style

Today is international Grenache Day. Whilst perhaps not (yet) a day inked in everyone’s calendar, it nonetheless offers the perfect excuse to celebrate with an old vines bottling from one of Grenache’s most lauded and historical homes, Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Here Julian Barrot of Domaine La Barroche, one of the region’s brightest stars, crafts a thrilling “Signature” Châteauneuf blend. The core of the wine emanates from 100 year old Grenache vines situated at the mythical junction of the Rayas, Pointu and Grand Pierre sectors. The 2015, in our view one of the great Châteauneuf vintages, offers a beautiful expression of Grenache so typical of the sandy soils it is derived from - sensual and sumptuous red berry fruit mixed with kirsch, underpinned by a darker, more spicy and lifted note provided by the Mourvèdre.
